The case against a former Northeast High School ROTC teacher accused of child molestation has been taken off the active trial docket.

Victor Troy Denson, 46, of Sandhill Circle in Lizella, was arrested in 2008 on allegations that he inappropriately touched two Northeast High School boys, ages 15 and 16 at the time of the alleged incidents. He also was accused of furnishing pornography to the 15-year-old on multiple occasions.

Prosecutor Dorothy Hull submitted a motion this month asking that the case be placed on the “dead docket” — a procedure in which prosecution of the case is postponed indefinitely. The motion was granted by a Bibb County Superior Court judge last week, according to court records.

The case can be reactivated with the approval of a judge, Hull said.

“It’s not being actively prosecuted,” she said.

Denson has agreed not to reinstate his teaching license, according to court records.

His attorney Holly DeRosa Hogue said his certification was revoked prior to the motion being filed.

Hogue said she and Denson were prepared to go to trial and had several people, including students and character witnesses, subpoenaed to testify in Denson’s defense.

“He has maintained his innocence from the very beginning,” she said. “I hope Mr. Denson can return to his regular life soon.”

Hull said she filed the motion to place the case on the dead docket to avoid a lengthy trial with students having to testify.

“In my experience, these cases are very hard on the witnesses, and it can be hard for juries to make a decision,” she said.

Denson was placed on administrative leave from the school Feb. 12, 2008, and was terminated in March 2008 following a school system investigation.

Bibb County school officials have said Denson worked for the school system for about three years before his arrest.
