Macon lawyer named federal bankruptcy judge

A Macon lawyer has been appointed as U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge for the Middle District of Georgia.

Prior to his appointment, James P. Smith was a partner in Macon’s Stone & Baxter law firm where he focused on business litigation and bankruptcy law. He previously was a partner in the Macon office of the Atlanta-based Arnall, Golden & Gregory firm, according to a news release.

Smith graduated from the University of Georgia law school in 1981. He is a past president and board member of the State Bar of Georgia Bankruptcy Section and a former member of the Board of Bar Examiners for Georgia.
