Market Square closing after 23 years in business

Market Square, a furniture, home decor and interior design store on Zebulon Road, is going out of business after 23 years in Macon.

The store began as a Pier 1 Imports in the Toys R Us shopping center on Eisenhower Parkway. Owner Peggy Edwards sold that franchise and territory 12 years ago, but stayed in the business and moved to 6255 Zebulon Road.

When Goodwill Industries expressed an interest in the Zebulon Road location, Edwards said she decided to retire.

“I felt like at this particular time in my life, that made sense.”

The store is having a going-out-of-business sale, but Edwards said she plans to complete any special orders or design work.

“We’re still doing a lot of interior design, even while we’re having the sale. I don’t want any customers to think they’re not going to get what they ordered.”

The store has six employees, including three full-time designers.

Edwards said Goodwill plans to open a store that will include drive-through drop-off points for donated items.

Attempts to contact local Goodwill officials for comment were not successful.
