ATHENS – It took more than two months, but Georgia’s coaching staff is finally complete.

The Bulldogs announced the hiring of former Vanderbilt assistant Warren Belin as the final member of their new-look defensive staff Friday. Belin will coach linebackers, along with new defensive coordinator Todd Grantham.

“Warren has had some of the best linebackers and tacklers in the league for years,” head coach Mark Richt said in a release from the school. “I’ve always admired his work at Vandy and people have been talking to me about him for quite a while. When Todd and I interviewed him, we were very impressed with his knowledge of the game, schemes, and fundamentals. He’s going to be a perfect mentor for our players as well.”

Belin coached linebackers at Vanderbilt for eight years and worked as the Commodores’ recruiting coordinator for the past two seasons. In 2006 and 2007, he served as the team’s special teams coordinator.

While at Vanderbilt, Belin coached All-SEC linebackers like Patrick Benoist, Jonathan Goff and Marcus Buggs and mentored future NFL talents including Hunter Hillenmeyer.

Prior to coaching at Vanderbilt, Belin was linebackers coach at Southern Methodist for five seasons, where he produced at least one All-WAC performer each year.

Belin has also coached at William & Mary, Cornell and East Tennessee State.

“I’m looking forward to the next step in my career with Coach Richt and the opportunity to compete for SEC and national championships,” Belin said. “I look forward to working with Coach Grantham … in installing the new defensive package. My wife and family are excited about the opportunity to become part of the Athens community, Bulldog Nation and the great tradition at UGA.”
