In an attempt to stop an oil refinery from coming to Macon, Councilman Ed DeFore sponsored a resolution for the City Council to express its opposition.

He issued specific concerns that the city’s stellar water quality would be harmed by the chemicals processed by the plant whose parent company is being sued by the state of Nevada.

The resolution, which was placed on the council agenda, also would request that the Macon-Bibb County Planning and Zoning Commission and the Macon Economic Development Commission delay efforts to get the plant to move to Macon. “We have the best water in the nation or the state,” DeFore said. “I’m in favor of getting 26 jobs, but we don’t need these kind.”
