Several midstate repaving projects planned

The main highway between Gray and Eatonton will be repaved this year, the Georgia Department of Transportation has announced.

An 11.2-mile stretch of U.S. 129 inside Putnam County will be repaved for about $2.15 million, the agency reported when it tallied construction bids from December. A November bid will separately repave the road from Gray to the Jones-Putnam counties border, a 14.7-mile stretch. Construction is slated to finish by October.

In all, the recently announced Middle Georgia construction projects are valued at about $6.7 million and will cover 47 miles of roads and several bridges.

Other major projects include about $790,000 to repave 4.8 miles of Sgoda Road in Twiggs County; in Baldwin County, about $250,000 to repave 1.9 miles of Blandy Road and about $376,000 to repave 3.6 miles of Browns Crossing Road; about $424,000 to rehabilitate two bridges in Baldwin County — Ga. 22 over the Norfolk-Southern rail line and Ga. 29 over Camp Creek — and a third bridge in Jenkins County.

In Butts County, it will cost about $595,000 to repave 6.4 miles of Brownlee Road; in Upson County, about $655,000 to repave 5.3 miles of Barnesville-Yatesville Road; in Laurens County, about $391,000 to repave to repave 4.5 miles of Roberson Street and Old Macon Road, and in Lamar County, about $475,000 to repave 4.4 miles of High Falls Park Road. In Jones County, it will cost about $455,000 to repave 3.9 miles of Bowen Hill Road; and in Dooly County, it will take about $123,000 to repave 1.2 miles of Elko Road.

Besides the three bridge projects and U.S. 129 in Putnam and Jones counties, the road projects are scheduled to be completed by the end of July.
