The opening of new buildings for Kay Road and Hunt elementary schools in Peach County will be delayed until Jan. 28, said Sara Mason, the system’s community/parent liaison.

Because of recent weather conditions, the driveways and parking lots of the schools cannot be paved in time for the schools’ original opening date Jan. 7.

The delay also will affect students at Trojan Academy and Crossroads Alternative School.

Students will still return to school Jan. 7 as scheduled, but classes at the four schools will take place in their current facilities until the end of the month.

Peach County students will not have class Jan. 26 and 27. Those school days will be made up May 25 and 26, except for high school seniors. Their last day of school is May 19, and graduation is May 21.

Open houses for the elementary schools, Trojan Academy and Crossroads will take place Jan. 27.

The students at those schools will begin attending classes in their new facilities Jan. 28.

Kay Road Elementary will be located at 800 Kay Road in Byron. Hunt Elementary will be at 1750 Ga. 341 North in Fort Valley. Trojan Academy and Crossroads will be housed in the former Hunt Elementary building at 1000 Tulip Drive in Fort Valley.
