Macon police are investigating an early morning collision that claimed the life of a Macon man and injured five other people.

Maurice White, 31, of Hollingsworth Road, was pronounced dead on the scene at the juncture of Log Cabin and Sherbrooke Drives following the 12:34 a.m. accident today, said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

White had to be extricated from the 1991 Honda Accord he was driving and his passenger, Erica Guy, 20, suffered a head injury and broken left arm, Jones said.

"It was mangled up," Jones said. "Both cars were totaled."

From the position of the cars and damage it was difficult to tell whether it was a head-on collision, Jones said.

The four people in the other vehicle, a 1999 Lincoln Town Car, were taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia, he said.

The driver of the Lincoln, 49-year-old Cornelius Howard of Scotland Avenue, broke both his hips while his wife, Margaret, broke her left hip, Jones said.

The couple's daughter, Sabrina Howard, 17, suffered facial injuries and cuts while her cousin, Breaella Robinson, 12, of Simmons Street, was shaken up and taken in for observation, Jones said.

"Everyone was wearing seat belts," Jones said after talking to the surviving victims.
