The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a serious school bus accident in Eastman.

Trooper 1st Class Curtis Bryant said initial evidence points to alcohol as a factor in the accident in which 24-year-old William Cockrell Moore of Chester Highway ran a stop sign at the intersection of Page and North streets about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Moore’s 2004 Chevrolet Impala ran up under a school bus carrying 19 elementary school students who were not hurt, Bryant said.DUI charges against Moore are pending toxicology testing.

Moore was unconscious at the scene and was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia with serious injuries, Bryant said.

He was not wearing a seatbelt and will be cited for that violation as well as failing to stop at the intersection, Bryant said.
