Carlyle & Co. to close

The Carlyle & Co. jewelry store in north Bibb County is closing as part of a nationwide shutdown of stores by the parent company as it works through bankruptcy proceedings.

The store, located at The Shoppes at River Crossing at 5080 Riverside Drive, will have going-out-of-business sales until all inventory is sold, according to a news release.

The manager of the local store said he was not allowed to comment about the closing.

A company spokeswoman said she didn’t know Monday how long the store would be open or how many employees worked at the store.

Existing gift cards will be honored for the duration of the sale, the release stated.

In August, New York City-based Finlay Enterprises Inc., which owns Carlyle & Co. and several other retail jewelry subsidiaries, announced it had filed voluntary petitions for relief under the Chapter 11 bankruptcy code. The company is closing all its 104 stores in 27 states.

The Carlyle store in Macon is the only one in Georgia. The company has three Bailey Banks & Biddle stores in the Atlanta area that also are closing.

The company closed its Carlyle & Co. store at Macon Mall last year about the same time the River Crossing store opened.

At the end of its second quarter that ended Aug. 1, Finlay Enterprises had 182 stores, including 67 Bailey Banks & Biddle stores and 34 Carlyle stores.
