One person is dead and another is in custody after a shooting late Monday afternoon in Macon County.

Octavius Terill Haslam, 24, died of a single gunshot wound and was pronounced dead outside a house at 3522 Camp John Hope Road, according to a GBI news release. The residence is located in Macon County, but has a Fort Valley mailing address.

Jerome Riley III, 21, has been charged with felony murder and aggravated assault, the release stated.

"It was some sort of a dispute," said Trebor Randle, Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Americus office of the GBI. "It was a very senseless killing."

Randle said there was no relationship between the two men but they were acquaintances of a third person at the house.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call the GBI at (229) 931-2439.
