CENTERVILLE — Hundreds are expected to rub elbows with candidates for various state offices at tonight’s Middle Georgia Regional HobNob, the first major event at the Galleria Conference Center and Banquet Hall at the Galleria Mall.
The HobNob, in its second year, has confirmed appearances by 40 political candidates — or their chosen representatives — at the Middle Georgia event just before some elections get under way.
“HobNob is enabling the Robins Region to become known throughout the state,” Ed Rodriguez, president of the Warner Robins Area Chamber of Commerce, said in a news release. “In many ways, the Robins Region is the ‘New Hampshire’ of Georgia politics. We are proud to see so many 2010 candidates from across the state taking time out of their important statewide travel schedules to join us for this event.”
The function’s purpose is to give the community a chance to meet with candidates and ask any questions they have.
John Oxendine, the state’s insurance commissioner and a 2010 gubernatorial candidate, is the most recent candidate to confirm attendance at the event, which runs from 5 to 8 p.m. State Sen. Robert Brown, Attorney General candidates Ken Hodges, Sam Olens and Rob Teilhet and others have said they plan to attend the HobNob. Also expected to be on hand are the mayoral candidates from Centerville, Perry and Warner Robins, as well as various city council candidates from the three cities.
According to the Warner Robins Chamber of Commerce, the event’s planners, all candidates from the 2009 local and 2010 statewide elections have been invited to participate in the event.
Sponsored by Cox Communications, the HobNob is a project of the chamber’s Governmental Affairs Division.
“We hope to replicate last year’s success with another meaningful event for our members and for the community-at-large,” Rick Drury, chairman of the Warner Robins Area Chamber of Commerce, said in a news release.
