Former Macon YDC officer admits to sodomy

A former Macon Youth Development Campus corrections officer was sentenced to five years on probation Monday after he pleaded guilty to sodomy.

Brandon Morris, 23, initially was charged with sexual assault against a person in custody, stemming from allegations that he allowed a 14-year-old girl in the facility’s custody to perform oral sex on him twice during September 2008. Morris also must register as a sex offender and remain on the sex offender registry for 10 years after he completes his sentence.

Prosecutor Greg Winters said Morris and the girl met and interacted at the YDC.

“She had a crush or some kind of infatuation with the defendant,” he said.

The girl wrote about the sexual encounter in a journal, Winters said. A YDC investigation was launched after another YDC resident read the journal and told corrections officers. As he was preparing to undergo a polygraph examination, Morris admitted what had happened, Winters said.
