Hey, I was hungry. So I ignored my mother’s look of shock and my wife’s snickering when the server at La Cabaña put on the table the two plates — two full plates — that held the Special Dinner I ordered.

I got a chalupa, chile relleño, beef taco, enchilada, tamale, rice and beans. I ate it all, except for most of the beans, which my wife described as re-re-re-refried beans. They looked and tasted like soup, but the taco and tamale were first rate. The other items were only OK. My appetite was sated.

La Cabaña is in the middle of a shopping center on Ga. 247 in Bonaire, a couple of miles past the Museum of Aviation at Robins Air Force Base. It’s a fair-priced, immaculately clean Mexican restaurant that has room for large groups and intimate booth seating for couples’ nights out. And — I hope this isn’t off-putting in a restaurant review — a large, sleek spic ’n span restroom.

They have the standard Mexican-restaurant fare, as my order attests to, along with an unusually large seafood selection.

My wife had the Quesadilla Supreme. It was large, crisp, spicy and all around excellent (Yeah. In addition to my large meal, I ate part of hers. I admitted to be being hungry, OK?).

My parents had combinations, which were smaller versions of my order. They are Mexican restaurant superfans and found the place suitable. My dad said the chips and salsa were some of the best he’d ever had.

So if you live in that area of Houston County and want some Mexican food, La Cabaña is a decent choice. If you’re someone (and I know a few of these types) who’s really concerned about cleaniness at restaurants, La Cabaña is an excellent choice. I mean, that place is really neat and clean.

Other than that, it’s one ordinary Mexican restaurant among many.
