GREENSBORO, N.C. - Jonathan Dwyer may be dusting off his mantle once
again.
Several members of the media seem to think so, at least, as the reigning
ACC Player of the Year is predicted to have a similar season this fall.
Georgia Tech's running back - who stunned the nation with his 1,395
rushing yards and 12 touchdowns in his first year playing in head coach
Paul Johnson's option offense - was picked Monday afternoon as the ACC's
preseason Player of the Year.
Dwyer claimed 39 first-place votes from the 87 voting members of the
media who selected him during this week's ACC Media Kickoff.
The next highest vote total came from Clemson's C.J. Spiller, who
amassed 28. Spiller is also the ACC's headliner in the Hesiman Trophy
race, recognizing college football's top player. Dwyer is not mentioned
on early lists, but is believed to make an appearance on them during the
season.
The ACC also announced Monday afternoon the results of the predicted
order of finish for the conference.
The Yellow Jackets received nine first-place votes in the Coastal
Division, but finished second to divisional foe Virginia Tech. According
to the ballot, Virginia Tech will win the Coastal Division, while
Florida State will win the Atlantic.
The ballot predicts the two will meet in this December's ACC
Championship game in Tampa, Fla., with the Hokies coming out on top.
