Locals speak out on Walker
Local movers and shakers discuss Mayor Donald Walker, this years mayors race and political newcomer Chuck Shaheen.
Far as Warner Robins politics in recent memory, Donald is kind of an icon. Hes kind of one of a kind. ... Hes hard-headed, but he will listen to you and he does change his mind. ... Hes in charge, and he knows where he wants to go, and he does whatever he needs to do to get there. And its all for the city of Warner Robins. ... If he thinks its for the betterment of the city, you better get out of the way.
Sonny Watson
Former state representative, grandson of the citys first mayor.
The question is not if I will run (for mayor), its when I will run. And now is not the right time.
Mary Therese Tebbe
Executive director of the 21st Century Partnership
I think Mr. Shaheen comes with no experience at all. Thats not going to be good for the city. Its going to take somebody thats had thats been in the house.
Clifford Holmes
City councilman and possible candidate for mayor.
(Walker) doesnt particularly like to be challenged at any level. ... It will be an interesting race.
Terry Horton
Retiring city councilman.
Donald has done a magnificent job. The city has grown. ... Even though hes my friend ... I know deep down in his heart, everything hes done hes done for the betterment of the city. ... Donald is a campaigner, and hell be up and ready for this campaign whatever it may take.
Larry Snellgrove
Former Houston County commissioner.
Walker goes berserk (when you oppose him). He takes it personal. I mean, he takes it that maybe people are running against him personally instead of for the office. ... Hes done a good job. Particularly when I was over there with the base, he was always right there with us. But, I mean, my goodness, everybodys time comes.
