A fire broke out Tuesday evening at a vacant office at 305 Pierce Ave., causing “heavy smoke damage” and “moderate to heavy fire damage,” according to Kenneth Nobles with the Macon-Bibb Fire Department.

No one was hurt in the fire. The property is owned by the United Methodist Home for Children and Youth. The cause of the fire, which was called in at 7:34 p.m., is still unknown.

The fire department arrived at 7:37 p.m. and blocked a section of Pierce Avenue extending from Elizabeth Place to Ingleside Avenue. At least four trucks were at the scene.

The property, located in a residential neighborhood, previously housed a Georgia State Farm Bureau and was for sale.
