Macon-Bibb County firefighters battled a stubborn house fire on Zebulon Road on Friday morning.

At about 6:30 a.m., the fire was reported at 5885 Zebulon Road between Carter Elementary School and Bass Road.

“It’s heavy damage to a one-story masonry frame house,” said Capt. Alton Davis of the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department.

Crews on the scene reported one man was inside but made it safely out of the burning building which sent heavy black smoke into the sky as firefighters arrived to find flames shooting out of the front of the house, Davis said.

Hoses blocked Zebulon Road for about two hours as traffic detoured through Ashford Park onto Foster Road.

Fire investigators began looking at the cause of the fire once firefighters knock down hot spots.

The blaze took about 45 minutes to bring under control, Davis said.
