Citizens file lawsuit against Dodge BOE

A group of concerned citizens in Dodge County filed a civil lawsuit Tuesday in Dodge County Superior Court against the Dodge County school board for violating open meeting laws.

Julius Gillespie, the group’s organizer, said Wednesday that in January the school board voted in executive session on its two superintendent finalists which the lawsuit contends violates open record laws about government transparency.

“We were out there waiting and they came out and said meeting adjourned,” Gillespie said.

The suit asks if found guilty, the board void the vote and be subject to pay up to a $500 fine.

The school board contends it did not violate the open records law, according to documents.
