Tubman African American Museum to get federal funds

Published: March 14, 2009

The Tubman African American Museum will benefit from a federal spending bill.

President Obama has signed into law the Omnibus Appropriations Act of 2009, with $380,000 in funding for construction at the museum, according to a news release from U.S. Rep. Jim Marshall.

“I am pleased to announce funding for this project,” Marshall said in the release. “I worked hard to ensure this project survived the whole process, and I’m very happy with the results. The federal funding to help construct the Tubman Museum’s new building is really important for the museum, the city of Macon and Bibb County.”

The Tubman is trying to raise millions of dollars to finish work on its new downtown Macon facility, which has sat partly finished for several years.
