An 11-year-old boy was bitten multiple times just before 4:30 p.m. Tuesday by a pit bull terrier, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The boy’s 12-year-old friend was walking the dog through the neighborhood surrounding Crimson Drive in south Bibb County when he approached the 11-year-old and the dog broke loose, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

The dog attacked the 11-year-old boy without provocation and bit the boy multiple times on his arms, legs and head, according to the release.

A neighbor witnessed the attack and struck the dog with a shovel, causing the dog to stop biting the boy, according to the release. Deputies say the boy was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Bibb County Sheriff’s Animal Control Officers took the dog into custody for a 10-day quarantine.

Deputies say the dog is owned by Stewart Ellington of 4441 Jones Road and charges are under consideration pending investigation.
