River Edge Behavioral Health Center’s detoxification and mental health center on Fulton Mill Road remains open, despite some apparent thoughts to the contrary, Executive Director Frank Fields said.

“That is in full operation. It has not closed down,” he said.

The 16-bed detoxification and mental health center provides detoxification for substance abuse and in-patient stabilization for the mentally ill, Fields said.

That is not to be confused with the Crisis Group Home, a 12-bed facility also on Fulton Mill Road that closed earlier this month as part of a $1.3 million budget cut. The Crisis Group Home was for chronically mentally ill people who needed stabilization after leaving mental hospitals.

“I’d hate for these folks to have a family member that’s in withdraw from alcohol, and they don’t carry them out here to get detox,” Fields said.
