Several area law enforcement agencies partnered for a 48-hour special traffic operation to kick off the holiday travel season.

Operation Firefox started at 7 a.m. Thursday and was scheduled to end at 3 a.m. today, said Macon Police Lt. Eric Woodford.

The police, Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Patrol, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Marshals and railroad police officers conducted speed checks, roadblocks and served active warrants within the city of Macon, Woodford said.

A state patrol helicopter patrolled from the air and provided support to officers on the ground.

By 5 p.m. Friday more than 300 citations had been issued, Woodford said.
