A Hawkinsville man just made it home Wednesday afternoon when his 1996 Dodge Caravan conked out in the driveway and erupted in flames shortly before 3 p.m.

Walter Arnold went to grab for a garden hose as a passing trucker called 911.

Arnold said by the time a firefighter arrived, it was too late to save his best riding car.

The van was reduced to a charred metal shell in the middle of Arnold's property at 2838 Ga. 341 South.
