Charges are pending against a 19-year-old Eatonton man accused of racing a car early Saturday morning just prior to a crash that killed another 19-year-old Eatonton man, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

Raymond Curtis Adams was driving a 1994 Jeep Cherokee on Rabbit Skip Road off Gray Highway in southwestern Putnam County at 12:20 a.m., Sheriff Howard Sills said. He allegedly raced Jimmy Gene Feagin, driving a 1995 Mercury Cougar. Feagin passed Adams, but lost control of his car and struck a tree, Sills said.

Feagin died at the scene. His two passengers, Eric Douglas Tally and Jonathan W. Kitchens, both 21 and of Eatonton, received medical attention at hospitals and have since been released, Sills said.

Adams’ two passengers were not injured, he said.

Charges of racing, reckless driving and homicide by vehicle are pending against Adams, Sills said.
