The earth shook in Baldwin County Saturday afternoon — twice.
The United States Geological Survey reported two weak-to-light shaking earthquakes about seven miles northeast of Milledgeville near Lake Sinclair.
The first temblor, measured at a magnitude of 3.1, happened about 4:45 p.m., according to the survey’s Web site. The second, occurring about 10 minutes later, measured at 2.2.
A geophysicist at the National Earthquake Information Center said the center had not received any reports of serious damage caused by the quakes.
Baldwin County Sheriff Bill Massee was not immediately available for comment late Saturday.
Tremors in the Lake Sinclair area are not unheard of and are common at other man-made lakes, Tim Long, a seismologist at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, once said.
They have been reported to happen every two to four years in Baldwin County.
