Four people are dead after a two-vehicle collision in Jeff Davis County on Sunday afternoon.

A van carrying two adults and three children was struck at the intersection of Bell Telephone Road and Post Road south of Hazlehurst when another vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign, Sheriff John Lee said.

Two adults and two children were pronounced dead at the scene and another child with leg injuries was transported to Jeff Davis Hospital, he said. The driver and passengers originally were from Jeff Davis County but were presently living in Appling County, he said.

The driver and a child in the other vehicle, from Coffee County, have been treated and released from Jeff Davis Hospital, Lee said. A passenger in the vehicle was flown by helicopter to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, he said.

Names of the victims were not available late Monday.

The case is being investigated by Georgia State Patrol out of Helena.
