Macon City Council on Tuesday agreed to extend its service delivery agreement with Bibb County and Payne City through June 2009, paving the way for negotiations on the massive document to take place next year.

The agreement describes which government will provide what services to county residents. Mayor Robert Reichert has been waiting for Bibb Chairman-elect Sam Hart to take office before pursuing service delivery discussions. From city officials’ point of view, Hart will be a more friendly face across the table than would current chairman Charlie Bishop.

The county a few weeks ago had sought to put off service delivery talks indefinitely but changed its tune Monday after the city objected.
