Macon police want to talk with the person who left a tip in a "major case" on the windshield of a police car some time Thursday.

Capt. Jimmy Barbee said he's gotten tips and leads in cases in many different ways over the years, but none like that.

"We get things all different kinds of ways," he said. "I get letters from prison inmates" and go to prisons to interview them.

Calls to Macon Regional CrimeStoppers have yielded valuable information, he said, as has an intelligence network among different law enforcement agencies.

But he's never had a clue come in this way.

Barbee said he'd like to talk to the person who left the note on the windshield of an unmarked police car parked outside Macon City Hall. He would not say which case it involved.

"We have no way of getting in touch with that person to get more information on the case," he said. "And we need to talk with that person again."

Barbee said the person can remain anonymous.

That person or anyone with information about the note is asked to call Barbee at 803-2348 or 447-2309, or Sgt. Shermaine Jones at 803-2482 or 447-0459.

Staff writer Oby Brown contributed to this report.
