A man who had agreed to sell a cell phone to another man Friday night ended in the arrest of the buyer for attempted armed robbery, according to Macon police.

Twenty-five year old Yi Huang agreed to meet Cedric Jamaal Dennard, 25, of Dry Branch, about 8:15 p.m. at Macon Mall to buy the phone, according to a news release. When the two men walked to the parking lot to get it, Dennard pulled a handgun on Huang and demanded his wallet, the release stated.

The two men struggled, and Huang was able to get control of the weapon and Dennard ran back toward the mall, the release stated.

Off-duty police officers and mall security were told of the disturbance and arrested Dennard.

Dennard was charged with criminal attempt to commit robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, the release stated.
