This weekend, one dog will finally get his day.

Mr. Angel, a once-forgotten bulldog mascot of the University of Georgia, will be honored today with a historical monument near his resting place at the Bank of Eastman in Dodge County.

An unveiling ceremony will be held at 11 a.m., featuring Bulldogs commentator Loran Smith as the keynote speaker, according to a news release from the Eastman-Dodge County Area Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Angel roamed Georgia's sidelines from 1944-46. He was owned by Warren Coleman of Eastman, whose daughter, Marie Coleman Wilson, attended UGA at the time.

Mr. Angel's photo appeared in the 1945 and 1946 Pandora yearbooks, but his recognition dropped off until 2006 when the student newspaper, The Red & Black, wrote a story about the forgotten bulldog.

Georgia officially recognized Mr. Angel as a mascot in its 2007 Georgia Football Media Guide.
