KATHLEEN -- A Kathleen man was seriously injured Friday morning when his bicycle was struck by a van in front of his home, a Houston County sheriff's investigator says.

Guangmao Nie, 68, was transported by ambulance to The Medical Center of Central Georgia, where he was listed in critical condition Friday afternoon, said Cpl. Sean Alexander.

The bicyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was struck about 8:10 a.m. when he pulled out in front of the van from his driveway on Audrey Way, the officer said.

Lisa Reed, 37, of Kathleen, the driver of the van, could not avoid the crash, Alexander said, noting that she was traveling about five miles under the posted speed limit of 25 mph when Nie suddenly pulled into the road.

Reed and her three children in the van were not hurt, Alexander said.
