UPDATE: Burned body in east Bibb is female; victim's death ruled 'homicide by violence'

Bibb County deputies determined the burned body found off Bond's View Road near Ocmulgee East Boulevard this morning is a woman.

Autopsy results show the woman died of "homicide by violence," said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

Jones said there were no apparent gunshot or stab wounds.

Bibb County Sheriff Jerry Modena announced at a news conference this afternoon that the victim is black, but deputies are waiting for autopsy results to determine her height and weight.

This is Bibb County's first homicide for 2008.

The woman's body has three tattoos and an earring deputies hope will help lead them to her identity.

Modena said the woman had a set of wings tattooed on the middle of her back attached to a tombstone that reads "RIP" and the tattoo includes the words "finally free."

She also had a tattoo on her left shoulder of the word "Juicy" and a rose tattooed on her right ankle with the initials "MP," Modena said.

Deputies found an earring in the shape of dice in her left ear in a hole about midway up the ear, he said.

Modena said employees of a logging company spotted a small brush fire on the side of the road on their way to work just after 6 a.m.

The employees called their employer, concerned about a fire in the dry weather, he said.

Employees later walked up to the fire and found the body, Modena said.

He said there are a few residences on the road, but none as far out as where the body was discovered.

Deputies have no suspects, Modena said, adding he hopes to release more information later this afternoon.
