While there are plenty of resources to help parents raise their children, one local group wants to encourage moms to turn to the highest power available.
Moms In Touch International is a ministry with a very simple mission — to cover every school in the world with prayer by uniting moms to pray for one hour a week for their children’s schools.
Moms In Touch started 25 years ago with just one mother and has now expanded to about 175,000 mothers in the United States and across the world.
To celebrate the group’s 25th anniversary, Moms In Touch International is hosting an event called “Arise! Cry Out!” Saturday. The event is a broadcast of a four-hour prayer meeting held in October, which included Moms In Touch International founder and President Fern Nichols, pastor Miles McPherson, founder of Miles Ahead Ministries and pastor of the Rock Church in San Diego, and the worship team Crimson Bridge.
The program will be broadcast at Bonaire First Baptist Church, located at 142 Ga. 96. The event starts at 9 a.m. and will last until 1 p.m.
Local coordinator Ruth White has been involved with Moms In Touch for the last 10 years, the past six in Houston County. She meets weekly with the Houston County group.
“It has been a blessing, a tremendous strength and a great comfort for me as a mom,” said White about her experience with Moms In Touch.
White said praying with other mothers has helped the group realize how God is working in their lives while encouraging mothers to worry less about their children and to trust God.
“We start out the Lord’s Prayer with, ‘Our Father,’ ” White said. “My pastor once explained that meant we were supposed to pray with others. Personally, the more I pray with other people, the better I pray alone.”
White said the Arise! Cry Out! celebration is designed to help women develop a deeper faith and prayer life. It also serves as an introduction to prayer and Moms In Touch. Not only mothers are encouraged to attend; women and girls of all ages are invited.
“It will give them a taste of what it is like to meet together with other women to pray,” White said.
