Valerie Meyers, a civilian employee at Robins Air Force Base and part-time graduate student, intends to enter the race for the 2010 Republican nomination for the 8th Congressional District seat. Meyers will be the fourth candidate to enter the race, joining Bibb County Republican Party Chairman Paul Rish, Macon business owner Angela Hicks and Central Fellowship Christian Academy dean of students Ken DeLoach.
Rep. Jim Marshall, D-Ga., a former mayor of Macon, has represented the district since 2003.
Reached by phone Thursday evening, Meyers declined to comment before her official announcement Saturday.
Meyers grew up in Alabama and graduated from the University of South Alabama before moving to Georgia, according to a news release. Meyers has not served in any elected office, but has been active in the local Republican party, according to the release. In 2008, she coordinated local activities for Rep. Ron Paul’s run for president.
According to the release, Meyers is a resident of Bonaire and is working toward her master’s degree in international business administration from Mercer University in Atlanta. She lives with her two children, Isabel and Zane.
