Two women died Friday evening when the cars they were driving collided head-on on Ga. 247 in Kathleen.

A Honda sedan driven by 29-year-old Valona Jo Wright of Hawkinsville hit a Nissan sedan driven by 48-year-old Sue Ann Bray of Ellijay, according to Houston County Coroner Daniel Galpin.

The only passenger involved in the accident an 8-month-old boy in Wright’s car, Galpin said. The baby was in good condition after the wreck.

Houston County sheriff’s deputy Slate Simons said the accident happened at 6:30 p.m. on Ga. 247 near Beaver Creek Road. The wreck caused emergency workers to close the highway for three and a half hours.
