Warner Robins native Chansi Stuckey may be playing in the NFL for the New York Jets, but he hasn’t forgotten where he got his start.
Stuckey, a Northside High School standout who attended Clemson University, will be returning to Warner Robins to host a football camp in partnership with the Warner Robins Recreation Department.
Stuckey is a rec department alum, having played on all the levels offered by the city until he began playing school ball.
“I’m excited to be working with the Warner Robins Recreation Department to provide this football camp,” Stuckey said. “I remember playing football for the recreation department when I was a kid and am grateful for the experience. I hope this camp will provide a positive outlet and experience for the kids who participate.”
The camp will be held July 18 from 8-11 a.m. Registration will begin July 11 for those registering to play football for the recreation department. Registration for the general public will begin July 13.
The camp is for boys ages 7-13, and there is no fee but space is limited. For more information, contact Lisa Jones at the Warner Robins Recreation Department at 929-1917.
Stuckey, who approached the rec department about conducting the camp, has family that still lives in Warner Robins.
“He has fond memories of going through our program," said Brandy Wilson of the rec department, “and he is committed to giving back to the Warner Robins community.”
Stuckey presented the first annual Chansi Stuckey scholarship to two Northside High student-athletes in May and partnered with his alma mater to provide Thanksgiving meals to 10 needy families.
Stuckey donated the funds, while Northside football players gathered the food and delivered the baskets to families.
Stuckey graduated from Northside High School in 2002 after leading the Eagles to the 2001 state championship game.
After a successful collegiate career at Clemson University, Stuckey just finished his second year in the NFL with the New York Jets, during which he caught 32 passes for 359 yards and three touchdowns.
