To select the systemwide winners, an educator from outside the system will evaluate the 37 school-level nominees’ written applications. As a result of this preliminary judging, 10 semifinalists will be selected for one-on-one interviews with a panel of out-of-system judges consisting of personnel who have various experiences in the educational field. After an intensive review of written applications and face-to-face interviews, the judges will select four finalists and the systemwide Teacher of the Year.
Last year’s Houston County Teacher of the Year was Alan Bowers from Houston County High School, and systemwide finalists were Cristy Waters, Centerville Elementary; Anita Hornsby, Northside Elementary; Lisa Mosely, David Perdue Elementary; and Valerie Walker, Quail Run Elementary.
