The Houston County Board of Education announced promotions for the coming school year at its May 12 meeting in Perry.
Ÿ Jan Melnick, an assistant principal at Bonaire Middle School, will become principal at Northside Middle School, replacing Ed Mashburn, who will become principal at Hilltop Elementary. Melnick holds an education specialist degree from Georgia College and State University, a master’s degree from Fort Valley State University and a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern University. He has been with the school system for 14 years.
Ÿ April Strevig, an assistant principal at David Perdue Primary and David Perdue Elementary schools, will become principal at Lake Joy Primary School, replacing a retiring Melanie Loggins. Strevig plans to complete her doctorate from Valdosta State University in August. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Wichita State University, a master’s degree from Georgia College and State University, and an education specialist degree from Columbus State University. She has been with the school system for 13 years.
Ÿ Cynthia Hammond, an assistant principal at Matt Arthur and Miller elementary schools, will become principal at Westside Elementary, replacing Sharon Daniel. Hammond has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Fort Valley State University and an education specialist degree from Georgia Southwestern University. She has been with the school system for nine years.
Ÿ Dana Walker, a teacher at Feagin Mill and Mossy Creek middle schools, will become assistant principal for instruction at Warner Robins High School, replacing Kathy Casey. Walker has a bachelor’s degree from Mercer University and master’s and education specialist degrees from Georgia College and State University. She has been with the school system for seven years.
Ÿ Sandra Woodfork, a teacher at Thomson Middle School, will be an assistant principal at Crossroads Center, replacing Pat Johnson. Woodfork holds bachelor’s, master’s and education leadership degrees from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, La. She has been with the school system for two years.
Ÿ Dustin Dykes, a teacher support specialist at Northside High School, will be an assistant principal at Thomson Middle School, replacing Cameron Andrews. Dykes has a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Georgia College and State University. He has been with the school system for six years.
Ÿ In related news, Kristin Oliver, a counselor at Westside Elementary, will be a counselor at Lake Joy Elementary, replacing part-time counselors Rita McDow and Nancy Graham. Oliver has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Georgia College and State University. She has been with the school system 14 years.
