BYRON — The Byron City Council adopted a resolution requesting that its local delegation introduce legislation amending the city’s charter to include a city administrator.

The resolution, which was voted on during Monday’s City Council meeting, calls for the city administrator to oversee day-to-day operations under the direction of the City Council. The administrator also will have to reside in Byron while filling the position.

Mayor Larry Collins said the position was added due to the growing needs of the city and to target outdated policies in the city’s charter, which was drafted in 1941. Collins said the position will be separate from city clerk though the resolution states that the administrator can perform that duty as well as treasurer.

If legislation is introduced and passed, Collins said the position could be advertised by the middle of the year.
