Broken your favorite New Year’s resolution yet? Or did you make any this time around?
Here are some New Year’s resolutions from members of our community:
“One of my resolutions this year is to just exercise my spiritual muscle and get more into the word of God and to be a better witness for him. That’s what I’m planning to do. And to develop new ideas for the business.”
Audrey George Owner, Chef Audrey’s Bistro & Bakery, Warner Robins
“Fitness: Play golf more regularly, run a race each month, push-ups, crunches and squats daily. Financial: Split monthly retirement increase (COLA) between savings and charity, begin work on my second million dollars. With the financial troubles of 2008, I’ve given up on the first million. Relationships: Weekly date with my wife; contact a different old friend each month. Mental: Take a class … anything. Spiritual: Read a book written by a well-known spiritual writer and teach Sunday School. Tackle a tough challenge. Clean my study weekly. Lifestyle: Live according to the Scout Law and Micah 6:8.”
Tom Prior
Houston County Habitat for Humanity
“One thing we’re looking forward to is the Go Fish visitors center that hopefully we’ll be opening up late 2009. We’re really excited about that. I always look forward to the fair, and we want to look forward to the biggest and the best Dogwood Festival that Perry has ever seen!”
Megan Smith
President/CEO, Perry Area Chamber of Commerce
“Trying to improve the organization, from financial stability to better programs for the kids to overall community awareness ... basically whatever I can do to instill a better program and better organization.”
Paul Dominguez
Boys & Girls Clubs of Georgia Heartlands
“My New Year’s resolution is to ensure that everyone I come in contact with is aware that the American Cancer Society is available to cancer patients and their families 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by calling 1-800-ACS-2345 or www.cancer.org.”
Heather Gilbert
Senior community manager, American Cancer Society
“I am really looking toward doing a better job in the new year of prioritizing my life and putting the things that are the most important first and the things next most important next. In that order — God, family and then my work. To prioritize my life better to make sure that everyone is dealt with in a fair manner with the limited amount of time and resources that we have. Honesty has a piece of that, fairness has a piece of that, all of those things work into that.”
Joe Bishop
Houston County Certified Literate Community Program
“I’ve made a decision to eat a healthy diet and lose some of the weight that I gained when I quit smoking.”
Kathy Hart
Executive director, Hodac
“The only real New Year’s resolution I made for this year was to have a more personal relationship with the Lord and to spend more time with my family.”
Joyce Hutcherson
Executive director, Senior Activity Center, Warner Robins Recreation Department
“As far as resolutions for the organization, to continue to offer the services and the ministry to the community that we’ve been doing for the past nine years. Helping people that have needs and finding solutions for them.”
Larry Wood
Perry Volunteer Outreach
“We always need fosters so we can rescue more. And we’d love to have more members. The more members, we have the bigger difference we can make. We would like to set a goal for 500 members for 2009. We would love to do that.“
Mary Coffee
Humane Society of Houston County
“I know I need to lose weight and to be more physically active, and I would like to start my master’s sometime here. I’d like to see our community and world really get back to the basics of family and the importance of protecting children and not taking things for granted, and being able to give kids a fresh start as we were able to have as kids.”
Tian Foss
Rainbow House Children’s Resource Center
“For Houston County to be aware of the needs of our children who have been abused and neglected and to make a commitment to improve things. I think if people really realized what we deal with and how many children are going through the court system, I think more people would give more time and resources.”
Terry Di Diego
CASA of Houston County
“For the first time in a long time I have a resolution with a plan — to be more involved in energy conservation — leaner and greener in everyday life and in our health. Carry that plan through at work in the wonderful programs the Museum of Aviation presents to the public, and encourage more visitors to take part in the many activities the museum offers for all ages.”
