Rhea is CEO of Robins Federal
John R. Rhea has been selected as the president and CEO of Robins Federal Credit Union. Rhea has been the bank’s executive vice president since 2006.
Rhea was formerly vice president of branch operations from 1996 to 2003, and has more than 30 years experience in the financial industry. Born in Pittsburgh, Rhea received a bachelor’s degree in finance from Pennsylvania State University. He is married to Mary L. Rhea and has three daughters.
Hospice honors

Ray Shell received a service pin and certificate for 15 years of service.
Brenda Ates, in medical records, received a service pin and certificate for 10 years of service.
Michelle McWhorter, an administrative assistant with Heart of Georgia Hospice since April of 2007, was honored with the Employee of the Quarter Award.
Free handgun class
The Warner Robins Police Department is offering a free basic handgun class for men to be held on Saturday, Jan. 31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The class will be conducted at the police department’s firing range.
The class will cover legal aspects of handgun ownership, gun safety and basic shooting skills. There is no charge for the class, designed for individuals new to shooting and gun ownership. Each student should bring a handgun, 50 rounds of ammunition, and eye and ear protection.

Cars for a cause
A car show to benefit Calle Vinas private home care providers will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at McConnell-Talbert Stadium on Davis Drive. Entry fee is $20. Blood drive Friday
There will be a blood drive sponsored by the American Red Cross from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Centerville United Methodist Church, 600 N. Houston Lake Road. To make an appointment, call Sara Colbert at 953-5387. Walk-ins are also welcome. All donors should bring a photo ID.
Relay for Life meeting Monday

Business expo
“Welcome to the Valley” will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 12 in the Lyons Student Center at Fort Valley State University. The business expo will be an opportunity for FVSU students to learn about businesses in Peach County. The event is sponsored by the Peach County Chamber of Commerce Business Ambassadors and FVSU’s Rural Business Outreach Institute.
Perry Players date change for play
Perry Players will present “Inherit the Wind” March 13 thorugh March 21. Ticket prices are $12. Youth under 16 may be admitted for $6. A matinee performance will be at 2:30 p.m. on March 15. meets Thursday
The Houston County Board of Health will hold its next meeting at 8 a.m. on Thursday in the conference room of the Houston County Health Department, 98 Cohen Walker Drive, Warner Robins.
Phoenix Center board to meet

Concert coming up
Organist Cj Sambach will perform at 3 p.m. on Feb. 8 at First United Methodist Church, 205 N. Davis Drive, Warner Robins. A graduate of Westminster Choir College, Sambach has performed across the United States the last 24 years.
Tickets are $10. High school students and college students with a college ID card and any child who attends with a parent are admitted free. Tickets are available at the door prior to the concert.

Book bag contest
The Friends of the Library in Houston County is sponsoring a book bag contest. Two $20 prizes will be awarded for “Most Miles from Houston County” and “Most Unusual Situation for a Book Bag.” Prizes may be redeemed during the Old Book Sale in May.
Rules include: Any Houston Friends of the Library book bag may be used, and logo must be visible and photo location must be clearly seen. Entries may be submitted to any Houston County library staff member with contact information on back of photo.
Winners will be notified by phone prior to the May sale. Multiple entries are allowed. Deadline to enter is April 20.
Pageant to raise scholarship funds
FVSU-Warner Robins Area Alumni Chapter will be holding its 2009-2010 Little/Teen Miss Fort Valley State University Pageant on May 16. The scholarship fundraiser supports students who attend Fort Valley State University. Contestants range in age from 4 to 18 years old.
