Most of us women are guilty of it. We bought a dress for a dance, a formal, a wedding, and years later it remains stuffed in the back of our closet, being saved for another event.
It's time to clean out that closet, because that event is here. It's the annual Warner Robins High School Demon Dress Drive.
No, it's not a party or a dance. It's even better. It's a chance to donate those formals that you will never wear again to an event that benefits a lot of people.
First off, it's the charity. All of the proceeds from the Demon Dress Drive, which is sponsored by the WRHS Student Council, are donated to a charity that benefits women and children. One year it was Gateway Cottage; last year it was the Houston County foster care program.
There's also another group of folks who benefit from the Dress Drive: The shoppers.
The dresses - none of which sell for more than $50 - are a great deal for anyone who needs a formal. One added benefit of the Demon Dress Drive is that it gives young ladies who may not be able to afford a prom dress the opportunity to purchase a beautiful gown at a more reasonable price than you will find at a dress shop.
Some girl's needed prom dress could be in the back of your closet right now.
You will want to go ahead and mark your calendar for the next Demon Dress Drive, which will crank up Jan. 31 in the Rockin' R Caf at WRHS.
But until then, go ahead and clean out your closet.
Haul out that evening gown that you know you will never wear again. The bridesmaid dress that you had to buy for your cousin's wedding. How about that wedding dress you yourself wore, that for one reason or another you are now not sentimental about at all?
Any type of formal wear may be donated. And since girls come in all sizes as well, all sizes are acceptable.
The dresses need to be "gently" used and dry-cleaned, ready for some lucky girl to wear at next spring's prom or senior ball or as a June bride.
Donations are being accepted now and may be taken to Warner Robins High School on South Davis Drive. For more information about the sale, contact student council sponsor Barbara Hilliard at 718-7752.
They may be Demons on the football field but the hearts of the kids at Warner Robins High are just like an angel's.
