The 35-year-old son of a newly elected Peach County commissioner was killed Sunday morning when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a truck on Ga. 42 in Crawford County, the Georgia State Patrol reported.
Melvin Earl Walker III, of Fort Valley, died at the scene of the 8:58 a.m. accident, said State Patrol Sgt. Leamon Hughes.
Walker was traveling west on Ga. 42 on his 2007 Honda 600 motorcycle. As he was negotiating a curve, his motorcycle crossed into the eastbound lane and into the path of a 2004 Ford Cutaway truck driven by Jack William Evans Jr., 31, of Macon, the trooper said.
The accident report indicated that Walker was traveling too fast for conditions, Hughes said.
Walker was the son of Melvin E. Walker Jr., former chairman of the Peach County Water and Sewer Authority, who was elected to the Peach County Commission in the July 15 primary.
