Police are investigating the drowning late Wednesday of a 4-year-old boy in a pond off Osigian Boulevard, Warner Robins police Sgt. Scott McSwain said Thursday.
Police and fire department officials responded to a call about a possible drowning in the 400 block of Osigian at 9:03 p.m. Wednesday.
The boy walked to the pond with his sister in the area of their residence, police said in a news release. The sister saw her brother enter the pond and go under the water, police reported.
The girl began to scream after her brother did not resurface, police said, and a 16-year-old boy heard her and called 911.
The 16-year-old attempted to locate the victim in the water but was unsuccessful, according to the news release.
After emergency responders arrived at the pond, Warner Robins police officer Josh Wilcox located the child unconscious at the bottom of the pond, authorities said.
Wilcox administered emergency medical treatment through CPR, McSwain said, but the child was pronounced dead at Houston Medical Center.
Warner Robins police officials declined to release the name of the child or his sister "out of respect for the family," McSwain said.
The Warner Robins Police Department and the Houston County Juvenile Division are investigating the incident.
