Carl Vinson Parkway to open new lanes today

By Wayne Crenshaw - wcrenshaw@macon.com

Motorists will have full run of the newly widened section of Carl Vinson Parkway in Warner Robins starting this morning.

Houston County will open the extra lanes after a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m., said county Operation Director Tommy Stalnaker.

Work on the $6.1 million project began in late 2006 and is finishing ahead of the two-year time frame in the contract.

The project involved widening Carl Vinson Parkway from two lanes to five lanes from Russell Parkway to Watson Boulevard. It also included widening Leverette Road from two lanes to three lanes from Houston Lake Road to Corder Road.

The project is paid for with funds from the 2001 special local option sales tax and is one of the last major projects designated in the sales tax plan.
