Former Georgia captain and Mercer head coach Mark Slonaker will join Scott Howard on the Georgia men’s basketball radio broadcast team this season.

‘’We’re excited to have a former letter winner and assistant coach return to be a part of our basketball broadcast,” Georgia associate athletics director for external affairs Alan Thomas said. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will no doubt add to the Georgia Bulldog Radio Network.”

A native of New Jersey, Slonaker lettered four seasons for the Bulldogs (1976-79) and was co-captain of head coach Hugh Durham’s first team at Georgia in 1979. He later returned for six seasons as an assistant coach under Durham.

‘’I’m very excited to be a part of Georgia basketball again and to come back into the program at the same time as Mark Fox,” Slonaker said. “I just want to bring a good, fresh perspective to the broadcast, one that I hope many Bulldog fans will enjoy listening to.’’

At Mercer, Slonaker was named National Coach of the Year in 2003 after the Bears enjoyed the biggest turnaround of any team in the country, from 6-23 to 23-6. Since July 2008, Slonaker has served as a regional director on the staff of the UGA Development Office.
