Five members of the Georgia men’s golf team have been selected for All-America honors by PING and the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Sophomore Russell Henley, a Stratford product, along with senior Brian Harman and junior Hudson Swafford, were named to the second team. Sophomore Harris English was chosen for the third team, and senior Adam Mitchell was selected as an honorable mention.
“It’s always satisfying when your golfers are chosen as All-Americans, and it’s even more satisfying when it’s all five guys,” Georgia head coach Chris Haack said. “I am very proud of these men. They worked extremely hard all
season, and they deserve this recognition.”
This is just the fourth time in school history that five Bulldogs earned All-America honors. Georgia did so in 2001 with Nick Cassini, Bryant Odom, Erik Compton, Ryan Hybl and David Miller; in 2005 (a national championship year) with Chris Kirk, Brendon Todd, David Denham, Kevin Kisner and Richard Scott; and in 2006 with Kirk, Harman, Todd, Kisner and Scott.
Henley, English and Swafford were named All-Americans for the second time. Harman and Mitchell were named for the third time.
Harman paced the Bulldogs this season with a scoring average of 71.94, followed by Henley at 72.08, Swafford at 72.50, English at 72.53 and Mitchell at 73.10.
English, Harman, Henley, Mitchell and Swafford also were named to the PING All-Southeast Region team.
Georgia reached the semifinals of the NCAA championship at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio, and finished the year ranked No. 1 by Golfstat and the GCAA.
