A black male in his 20s entered the front of Burghard Elementary School “belligerent and loud,” said David Gowan, Bibb County school system’s director of risk management.

The man was seen entering the school on the school’s security cameras and because some students were in the foyer, it caused school principal Lynne Donehoo to approach the man.

“He pushed her down. Her whole body went to the ground,” Gowan said.

Donehoo was taken to the hospital for observation and may be absent from the school for a few days, officials said. Gowan said the man then fled the school and it was unclear why he entered the school or if he had family attending or working there.

The school system was working Thursday evening to make an arrest, he said.

During the incident, the school, at 6020 Bloomfield Road, was on lockdown.
