Rutland rolls in first game of GHSA softball Elite Eight
Jonathan Heeter
Rutland advanced to the winner’s bracket semifinals of the GHSA Class AA Elite Eight with a 7-0 win over Southeast Bulloch. Rutland’s ace Sarah Ray pitched a complete game, one-hitter. The senior struck out 16 and gave up her only hit with two outs in the seventh inning. She took a direct shot to her chest, but recovered to finish the game. “It was more of just a quick shock,” Ray said. “I feel fine. We’re ready to play again.” Rutland will play Buford at 6 p.m. The Wolves have defeated Rutland in the playoffs in each of the past two seasons. “We’ve been ready to play them for a long time,” Ray said. “We have to get rid of the emotion, because we’ve been waiting for this one for a whole year.”
